Personality and Appearance

Sun Quan may not be as feared as his father, the 'Tiger of Jiangdong', nor as strong as his brother, the 'Little Conqueror', but he still possesses the spirit of the tiger and as such, possesses the tiger's claws and the tiger's fangs. The same fiery blood that flowed through the veins of his predecessors is the same fiery blood that flows through his, albeit more tempered and more cunning as a tiger watches his prey. The eyes of the tiger are bold and green, his face sharp and attentive, dark brunette hair combed back into a top knot and his apparel from shoulders to toes in the fiery red colours of Wu.

Sun Quan may seem a stern man and such does not go without saying in his calculative ways and compared with his brother and father, is perceived to be the strictest as he takes betrayals and excessive disobedience seriously. In many ways he is compared to his brother and father and it is through them that his inner strength has grown over the years to lead Wu into the future that his brother and father both dreamed of, the dream that continued within himself and a dream that he intended to bring about to lead the land into its future, the future that is led by Wu. With such responsibilities and burdens, he does take both positive and negative action into account and takes them seriously, yet does have a compassionate side which he shows to those close to him and showing respect to his generals that fought alongside his father and brother on the frontlines and those who have done a great service for Wu, whether general or soldier and endeavours to give his all also in whatever manner to be worthy of being called the Ruler of Wu.

Having such responsibilities also equates to ensuring such responsibilities are carried out and therefore requiring to be adequately protected by light armor, which he has with a breastplace around his muscular chest, arm guards to his wrist and wearing gauntlets for extra measure. Though Sun Quan may not be as strong as his hot-headed brother, he is a proud man as a member of the Sun family, bringing about his bold personality and ability to move on regardless of the circumstance to be an example for others. His chosen weapon is that of a juding dao sword, which like his name, he carries with pride with two blades stemming from the hilt for greater effect.

Skills and Abilities

Sun Quan has often doubted his abilities when comparing himself to the likes of his brother and father who were both formidable and beyond compare. However, as he has learnt since taking up the mantle of leadership, it is recognising his weakness that is his true strength. He may not be as skilled in warfare as his predecessors but is skilled in recognising the strengths of others and using that to place them in the right office. In addition to recognising the importance of the officers who support him, for without them, Sun Quan would not possess the strength to lead Wu, let alone himself.

In comparison with his predecessors, he does take betrayal and disobedience very highly, but he is compassionate and forgiving. An illustration of this was his forgiveness towards Master Zhang Zhao who had advocated submission to Cao Cao to protect the lands of Wu, placing him as Chief Supplies Officer in the war against Cao Cao and with such an act, he managed to unite all the officials that were once divided in opinion. It is said that his very heart burns with the will and spirit of Wu and it is such a flame that he sees burning within his officers, valuing loyalty and returning such loyalty with careful considered decisions to do that which will benefit Wu the most, taking calculated risks and taking the time to listen to the views put to him.

In addition to being a patient and diligent leader, he also has the ability to earn the people's admiration which he did so when he first took the mantle and started his campaigns by taking revenge for his father at Xia Kou. Sun Quan recognises that he must not be hasty, to consider both internal and external matters, but he will do what he must to preserve the future of Wu and make the dreams of his father and brother a reality.

History

Born in 182, Sun Quan is the second son of Sun Jian, the Tiger of Jiangdong, younger brother to Sun Ce and older brother to his sister, Sun Shang Xiang. His father was pleased by his birth and proclaimed that he would be the one to lead the family's future, confirmed when he was 19 when he became ruler of Wu, since Sun Jian suffered severe injuries from the Battle of Xiangyang and Sun Ce was poisoned by an arrow which was then treated by the famed doctor Hua Tuo, but would be condemned to die should he continue fighting. The seal of rule and the ancestral sword was now in the hands of Sun Quan who set out to make the dreams of his father and brother come true. Arsenaled with the veteran officers of Sun Jian and the talented officers that had flocked to Ce’s banner, Quan set out to better the land.

Unlike his father and brother, Quan was not as strong as they were, and often doubted his abilities, but after spending many years bringing the lands of Wu to their full potential and his campaigns against the Sun family’s sworn enemy, Huang Zu, which resulted in his death, Quan had much support from both his generals and his officials, but when it came to Cao Cao, things got messed up. He had already tried to get one of his sons to send tribute to the Emperor which was refused as he saw it as an attempt to control Wu, and wasn’t long after Cao defeated Yuan Shao and soon after Huang Zu’s death, that Wu found themselves near a possible outbreak of war with Cao Cao. However, the famed Zhuge Liang arrived in offer of an alliance to fight against Cao Cao where his officials disagreed. After much deliberation and remembering how his brother told him to rely on Zhou Yu for military needs, he consulted with Zhou Yu and joined forces with Liu Bei and pushed Cao Cao back north.

Liu Bei’s forces had their forces in ambush to capture Cao Cao while Wu fought against Wei’s giant fleet that was easily squashed once the plan had come into reality. The fires that had spread surely demonstrated the power of Wu making them more of a threat than a kingdom that kept to itself like Liu Biao. Therefore Jing province was rightfully Wu’s but remained in Liu Bei’s control till he had obtained more land. Many were angered when the land wasn’t returned, but in due time, Wu was able to obtain half of Jing with Cao Cao’s forces sitting in Xiang Yang’s Fan Castle.

Zhuge Liang had predicted the Three Kingdoms strategy but now that part had come into fruition, Zhou Yu had planned the Two Kingdom strategy, but for now, he focused on bettering the land he had and preparing for Wu’s next move....
