The heat was getting to her. She brushed a imaginary piece of dust off the shoulders of her robes and looked at heriverside reflection in the water basin. A stray piece of hair had escaped the pile she had on top of her head. She was nervous, she realized dimly as she reluctantly called for the girl who acted as a maid to her. She didn't enjoy having anyone's help, but with the fortune left to her moons ago, she had ano obligation to return the good deed done to her. Within minutes, a female who looked to old for her young age began to carefully adjust her hair. Mei XiaXue had to look her best. She would be seeing for her eyes the Royal Sun Family and be getting her first impression. She hoped that they lived up to the hype and rumors swirling around them.

Normally, indifferent to rumors, XiaXue had heard about an attempt on the life of a member of the family. Who, she hadn't given much heed. But it was well known that chances were not being taken. That, had her leaving her sword behind. She didn't need it, if it came down to it but she would have preferred to have it on her body. But just because she was going without her main weapons didn't mean she'd be unarmed. Dismissing the helping girl, she proceeded to add the final touches, mostly making sure she was completely covered, every hair in place held by small pieces of metal and her dagger strapped to her calf. Well. It wasn't going to look better than this.

XiaXue took a deep breath, calming herself down before she set off. She forced herself to remain calm to the small journey to the palace. And that's when she felt herself go tense. She got looks, for sure. And there was so many people around her... no way for to her completely watch her back. In the short time since joining Wu, she kept mostly to herself so she wasn't familiar by any means with the guards, soldiers or even officers to that.extent. But even that had to end eventually. She took a deep breath. She had been told the general directions. Follow the path. Look for the funny looking guy who had a sour face. She didn't bother smiling at him, she doubted he could smile back. XiaXue pulled out the rolled up papet that she had held tight in her right hand. She presented it to the man without a word. She watched his eyes open slightly and she felt the stare he gave her as she pretended to look down and adjust her robes. Yes, she didn't appear to look like she was acting as a representative for some of the merchants. However, she had both sides interests. Merchants were tired of the orphans who came and stole or crushed trouble, scaring away business. Mei knew what it was like and wanted a change. Soon.

"No weapons inside, the sour face man told her in a voice that rasped out. XiaXue looked up and debated what her luck would be slipping in with the dagger attached to her leg. Slim, it'd probably show at some point. But taking it off would seem very unladylike... not that she was concerned. With a small nod of acknowledgement, she knelt down and began to unfastened her weapon. Handing it over to a guard next to Sour faced, she gave the male a slight smile. And then nerves kicked in.

Within minutes, she was being led to, what she thought she heard, was the throne room. And she wasn't disappointed the doors opened and Sour faced proceeded her in. Not that she minded. It gave her a chance to look aroud. And part of her was stunned. She had never been in a position to see a throne room and she was stuck by the grandeur of it. And the guards. She felt the hair on her body rise. There were guards everywhere. Around the room. Mostly male. But as she focused on where her guide was, kneeling on the ground, she realized there wasn't only male guards. But female. She wanted to raise her eyebrows but she knew better. Instead, she examined them. All dressed in armor, all in red. And they stood around.... a female? So she was meeting a... Princess? The one whose life had been attempted on? Confusion hit Mei XiaXue hard, but she didn't have time to linger on it. "Your Highness, Mei XiaXue, liaison for the Merchants," sour faced announced and moved away, exposing XiaXue completely.

It gave her a direct look at the female on the tiger skins and also, had eyes drawn to her. So she did what was expected, she dropped down into a bow and waited to be addressed.

Ever since the attack on Ren, she had been worried that something like that might happen again. But why would someone try to take her out she’s the third in line to the throne so it made more sense to try and kill Ce then Ren? Then again if she was to die the sun family would have no heir after Ce and Quan. But who knew what was going though that maids head, and what’s worse is who would pay someone to take her out.

Now on the outside, she looked as if the whole event did not phase her, but deep down she was terrified that she a target. It’s not like she did anything to put her on anyone’s hit list; so why would someone try to kill her now they would have more chance when she was a child now she’s all grown up it’s a lot harder. And with the failed attempt it would be even harder to get close to the Crown Princess of Wu.

Quan was out somewhere around town doing god only knows what. But on the plus side when he was not around she was able to use the throne room and deal with small issues that did not concern affairs outside of the kingdoms, like taxes or going to war with other kingdoms. That was only soothing that Quan could do nor could she overrule any policies that are already in effect or that will be put into effect. Quan had taught about how to make choices based on what she believes is right for her family and for Wu.

Just as she was about to go over some papers that Quan had left her; he knew that she hated doing paperwork but sitting on the throne of Wu meant that she had to deal with whatever Quan wanted her to and that was always papers on this and that. It was nothing major couple of things on training and hiring more guards for the city in general. Now her maids were present to guard her the other guards were part of the throne room; however the extra ones were there for Ren under Quan's orders.

Your Highness, Mei XiaXue, liaison for the Merchants,” Xian simply paused as she then looked up to notice a young girl this must have been one of Wu’s newest members; they had accepted so many vassals lately it was hard to keep track of who was new and who was old. “If you’re looking for my brother he is our right now. But I can deal with any issues you might have. Here about Merchants right? What have we done this time, last I heard they were happy with the agreements that my brother had put In place." it was no secret some Merchants always wanted more.

Slowly, she stood up to her full height. It wasn't much, but still, all eyes were on her and she wasn't going to have herself slouching. She looked over the guards one more time. Cautiously. They were all armed and she wasn't, but she knew it was for the protection of the girl. Uh, princess. The princess who then informed her that Sun Quan was out. While, there went most of her plans. Until the princess spoke of how she could handle the problems.

XiaXue raised one slender eyebrows and shook out the long sleeves of her robes and carefully folded her hands behind her back, her nails digging into her skin as she took a deep breath and steadied herself. She got a feeling that the princess wasn't quite eager to deal with the merchants and for that, she fully understood. The mostly older group of males were hard to deal with, as werecruiters the loud females who seemed to snap at every second about a new conplaint. But she was here not for them. Something had to be done with the orphans roaming around. Yes, they caused trouble and tended to be generally a hassle but it was for reasons. No one was there for them.<br><br>After one more quick breath, she smiled cautiously and spoke to the princess.

"Yes, the agreement your brother made was quite agreeable with them. However, a slight problem has arisen," XiaXue paused, quickly and noticed a strand of hair had fallen and was hanging loosely around her left side. She wanted to sigh, but knew not to. She gave the hair a quick glare but otherwise refrained from touching it. She wasn't going to seem u professional in front of the princess. The few seconds did give her time to compose what she was going to say.

" As we are all aware of, with the bad harvest and general turmoil surrounding us, it seems the next generation are taking the worst of it. The merchants have noticed a steady pattern of..." XiaXue paused, she wouldn't call them street rats. But nor would she call them orphans to the princess. "Child theft and general problems with them. It's affecting sales, especially with items going missing or being broken in an effort to catch them."

She simply smiled as she looked over to the girl as she put her papers to one side and smiled to one of the servants who ran over to pick up said papers and then watched as he ran out the door behind the throne. That door led to the royal chambers and only select few could enter even less with the attempt on Xian’s life. Ren then switched her position from sitting  and was now laying down on the throne using the furs as a cushion. Her feet hanging off of one side and her head off the other using the throne as if it was a couch.

Now one thing that she cared for the same as she did her family where the people of her brother’s kingdom. She was well known and liked them and hated to see them suffer, but sometimes even she could not fix everything so all she could do was try her best and hope that it all works itself out. Her father had always told is better to help others then watch them suffer. Maybe that was why she so was so popular among the people of Wu.

Yes, the agreement your brother made was quite agreeable with them. However, a slight problem has arisen," She paused and sighed little as she tilted her head to the side in order to keep looking at the girl in front of her. “So what’s the issue. If you say the agreement stands it can’t be about that so must be something else.”

She knew she was not sitting like a royal but she was a teenager and she was not about to let anyone other than her family tell her how to sit or talk. “First off I’m sorry for all the security but with the recent attack on me I’m kind of little on edge that it might happen again.” "Child theft and general problems with them. She knew that harvest was an issue but she and her brother had found a way to fix the food issue but it would not be an over night thing.

“Do they know that we have found a way to cover the shortfall this season, but you say there stealing and its effecting sales. Huh, that would explain why the commander of the watch told me that he had seen a child running with what he believed to be a sack of something.” Now what could she do, it’s not like she would deploy the city guard to catch the kids; that could result in children getting hurt but at the same time stealing affected everyone.

“Well my brother might deploy the guard to catch the kids, but I feel that would only make things worse. Do we know the families of said children who keep stealing, I mean is random or is there like gang of them working as one group?” Maybe if she knew the families she could send some of her royal supply to the families to help them though the season and to stop the crime. “If we could locate the families then maybe I could give them some of the royal supply in order to help them deal with the shortfall.”

Mei XiaXue knew better than to react as the young female lay out on the throne. Perhaps being so formal wasn't the correct response but XiaXue wasn't comfortable with the risk factor if she made the wrong move. Especially with the eyes of so many to document it. And everyone knew rumors spread. It was part of the reason she had agreed to liaison for the merchants: if she was known for wanting to help rather than anything else, it's earn her some respect. Especially serving as an officer of Wu. Her theory hadn't had the chance to be tested yet, but all in due time.

She bowed her head slightly as the princess talked about a way to resolve the shortage. She wasn't surprised, it was the Royal family's job in a way to take care of their people. However, most would watch the suffering for a time before acting out. The Sun family, it appeared, wasn't like that. The young princess at least knew what she was talking about. But one part had her looking up, directly at the princess. Finding out who the children's family was? If only things were that simple.

"Your Highness, whIle I understand the path of thought you are crossing, I do have concerns. If we were to find a child and ask about the family, there is no guarantee that they would give us their family name. Perhaps pride. Perhaps there is no family left for them. Now, if we caught a child in the act of thievery, there is a chance that their family would see their actions as disgraceful and not lay claim to them." Mei XiaXue shrugged, letting her hands fall to her sides as she did so. "From what I have seen and heard from the Merchants, there is no plan to the crimes, they happen some days more than others and are random, sometimes it's more than food. Small trinkets that appear at other shops days later, almost in exchange for money. I would like to believe that it is a child trying to help their family in all cases." Or she hoped so. If it was an organized group effort, the merchants would have an even harder time with the problem. Also, she knew her job. It wasn't to protect the children, but to look at the interests of the Merchants.

XiaXue wasn't comfortable with saying that though. She herself cared for the children too much to just dismiss them and ask for the Sun family to rid them of the problem. It wasn't how she operated.

“Well the people of Wu are a proud and noble people and to be honest, I was little like that when I was a child. Sure I have grown up, but part of me will always be that child that use to scare the maids and drive my mother and father up the wall. Pride is something everyone in Wu has the royal family lead by example so I would expect them not to tell you anything, but they know and look up to me so maybe I can find out, there more likely to talk to me than a Stranger.

I mean we need to nip this in the bud now or I will only get worse, maybe there is a mastermind behind this using the children to their own ends. If that was the case if we could find him, I will send one of my maids with a  group of guards to have him arrested. she maintained her position on the throne and she pressed out creses in her dress.

She almost wanted to laugh when the princess asked for her advice. Almost. XiaXue hadn't directly wanted to deal with the problem, it meant getting involved and attached to the people of Wu. Sure, she inhabited the kingdom. But getting involved or attached was a big commitment. And she wasn't sure she did commitment. Especially since she didn't know how to feel about the merchants. She tilted her head to the side and relaxed her posture a tadeep, loosening her shoulders. If the people of Wu were so noble, why wasn't the next generation brought up with those same standards then?

From there, I'm sure speaking to you or your brother, my lady, will do the trick and either install enough fear or awe in them to get them talking." it wasn't the best method but there could be worse out there. And, the way she saw it, best to get the problem out of her way so she could relax. Relax and not have to worry about children stealing, complaining merchants and the Royal family she served

And if anyone knew all the hidden paths around the city it was herself as she played there when she was a child.

“Trust me I will post some more guards around the market. But if it still the same as when I was a child there is so many hidden paths and passages that run under and around the city would make it simple to get in and out even if they were detected.” She knew this as she ran away from her guards more than once using the same passages. “How much do you know about this city Mie; it did not always look like this. What you see now is the work of countless generations of my family. They all put their blood and sweat into making it what is today, some are even buried within his foundations"

Now that might sound little strange but some of Ancestors had wished to be buried among the city that they help create. " If you like i will give you access to the tomb on my of my families  history. it has records going back generations, but if you do so i ask you to be careful and not to take them out of the room that they are stored in. if anything happens to them brother will kill me. don't worry there is nothing in there that can be used to undermine this family or this kingdom, the records you will be seeing are fit for public viewing.

I'm sure speaking to you or your brother, my lady, will do the trick and either install enough fear or awe in them to get them talking. “My family do not rule by fear or awa, if it comes down to talking to them I will talk to them. As if I was still a child, you need to understand that I a lot of parents of children know me and respect me and my family, hell some of the nobles even watched over me with my mother. But I am sure you and I can fix this.”

[Gan Ning]

As far as Gan Ning was concerned, things had been incredibly dull lately. They weren't in any wars, he'd been told it was "bad policy" to go up and down the Gan or the Yangtze and do what he did best. If things didn't change soon, He might have to actually ask permission to go out and capture a merchant ship or two! Him! Asking for permission! For now, he was stuck whiling away the hours in Jianye, most of the time spent out maintaining the navy and trying to get their sailors worthy of the title. Lately however, things had been going missing. At first he'd thought it was sailors forgetting things and taking them home but they'd all fervently denied any involvement....and what kind of moron would lie to Gan Ning of the Bells about possible sabotage?


So, with a heavy heart, he was stuck going to Quan about this. Man, he really wished he didn't have to. Something about Quan just seemed to rub him the wrong way. Maybe it was the beard, maybe it was the fact that his brother just seemed like more of a good time, at least Ning's version of one. Either way it was never fun bringing bad news to your boss's attention. It usually meant a pay cut or someone taking your bells or worse...a ban on sailing at all! Shivering, he was brought to a halt when he reached the palace only to see a guard actually trying to stare him down. "I'm sorry, General but I'm going to have to ask you to leave your blade here if you want to enter." he said. Looking down at his waist where he kept his trusty Leviathon, Ning looked slowly back up at the guard. "Why? No one's ever had an issue with me being armed in there before. Did I miss something lately?" The guard shrugged before responding "There was an attempt on Lady Ren's life not long ago. Orders have changed since." Nodding his head in understanding at that, Ning quickly drew his blade and thrust it into the ground outside the entrance. "I'm expecting that to be exactly where I left it when I leave or I'm going to throw you onto a ship and ride you until you beg to be allowed to leave the army." he growled.

Heading inside, he hesitated just inside the door as he saw Lady Ren lounging on the throne and discussing something with young woman, quite an attractive one if his slightly roving eyes told him the truth. Trying to listen without really listening, he only caught something about merchants and things being stolen. Snickering quietly to himself, Ning decided to wait for him to be noticed, rather then just stride into the middle of what could be an important conversation.

Mei XiaXue tilted her head to the side. Did Sun Ren think she had meant to offend? That was not the case, even if by a long shot. She had merely meant that the Sun Family obviously had power, especially with the people. Not a corrupted sort of power, but a good one. Earned out of respect. She noddled slowly at the offer of seeing the tombs. " Of course, I understand. You have my word, my viewing of them will be to enrich my knowledge of well, the history." She hope she had phrased that right. She didn't want to be unknowing of Wu, but she didn't know if getting attached was a good idea.

Mei XiaXue wasn't quite sure she did attachment. Or anything that deep. With a smile, she was about to speak about the hidden paths in the market when the hair on her neck stood up. She heard the door open and she turned slightly. Not to show disrespect toward the princess but because she also didn't trust anyone at her back. Her eyes widened slightly before she quickly masked it. It was a maletter, one she was sure she had heard about before. She heard the soft jingling of the bells before the male came to a stop. XiaXue had to tilt her head up to look at the man who seemed to tower above her. Bells, spiked hair and tall. He wasn't a respectable man, that much was clear. He reminded her all most of a pirate. But still, he had been granted entrance so she was to show respect. "My lord," She bowed her head slightly to him.

Part of her wanted to stare at him, partly because of his height and partly because she was curious. Yet, she diverted her gaze back to the princess, her eyes keeping him within her sights though.

"Do you think there's a high that this crime could be organized and perhaps, a search of these passages , not by the guards, but byou other residents would be a good plan?" If it put things to an end, she would search the passages herself. And probably get lost. But still.

Now Xian had a rough idea of where this meeting would end up, she would no doubt end up using the tunnels to find the hideout and if there was, in fact, some mastermind behind the thefts then Xian would have them taken to jail and let them remain there until such time as she deems fit to release him. Is not like she could put him to death without a valid reason and stealing no matter how bad did not require the death penalty.

"Do you think there's a high that this crime could be organised and perhaps, a search of these passages, not by the guards, but bayou other residents would be a good plan?" “Well if I send the guards to check out the tunnel’s it would only make it worse, you and I may have to go with a few of my maids. The commander of the watch will have to stay topside and stop any more thefts from happening so to speak.” Ren had the power to detain and search houses but she would only do that as a last resort.

Just as she was about to say something she noticed someone else coming into the throne room, why now sure she was the highest ranking member of kingdom present right now. But if he was allowed into the throne room he must have something important to tell her. A couple of moments later she noticed who it was. Gan Ning. the Pirate turned officer; why her brother took him on was beyond her. But she did not have a say in who joins Wu and who does not.

"Well, it seems that the guards are letting any old rift raft into the throne room nowadays." Looks towards Mie "Better hide your valuables, the pirate has arrived.” She shot him a smirk she respected Ning as an officer of her brothers but once a pirate always a pirate. “So what brings you to the throne room General, you barely ever come on land so come closer and let me hear it.” Xian ment no offensive but the last time she had met Ning she almost ended up falling into the water.

Ning's snickering turned into full blown laughter as he moved into the room properly. He nodded his head respectfully at the little woman, calling him a lord. Like he'd ever be caught dead as some kind of stuffy noble! It was probably the thing he found the most unusual about people in Wu. They all seemed to think that being a good fighter meant you were some kind of hero. Ah well, he'd show them whenever they let him and his crew go wild.


Stopping in front of the throne, He cut a rakish grin up at Ren. "Oh, Princess. I think if they hid the valuables, they'd have to hid you too." he joked "You're easily the most valuable thing in the room. Now, what's this about tombs and merchants? I swear, I've not taken any ships in the last...uh...three days?" Nings brow furrowed as he actually thought for a second on how long it'd been since he'd been able to ply his trade properly.


Lost in thought for  a moment, he brought his attention back to what the Lady had asked him. Why had he come..? Oh, right. Supplies going missing. How best to explain that? Something told him that just saying 'We've lost stuff' wouldn't do him any favors here. Scratching the back of his head, he nervously smiled at her. "I'm, uh, here cause it seems someones been raiding the shipyard, probably at night. My first thought was it might've been some of the guards or sailors or shipwrights or pretty much anyone we let near them. They've all checked out, far as my boys can tell. Figured your brother would've wanted to know and I wasn't taking the blame for this! It's not like there are any of our bells missing!" He finished off with a joke, hoping it was enough to keep him out of shark infested waters.

She almost let out a sigh of relief as the 'pirate' moved into more of the room, allowing her to not be kept at an awkward angle. She didn't trust anyone at her back, especially someone who wasn't exactly civilized. XiaXue could trust the guards, they had a purpose and they didn't look like much of a threat. The maids, could be a threat, but only if she reacted in the wrong manner to the princess. But the Princess... Sun Ren and Gan Ning were the two she didn't prefer to turn her back to. Which made her almost groan when the female suggested they themselves go and check things out.

That wasn't the goal. Being a liaison for the Merchants was getting worse as it came. Next thing she knew, she would be with the princess of Wu out looking for children theives. She just wanted to make sure the children were safe and merchants remained in good attitudes with her. Simple, or so she had thought. It wasn't. She had sort of been hoping the Sun family would be able to get the trouble dealt with guards but she hadn't thought it through. That much was obvious.

"Yes, I do suppose going through the tunnels ourselves will get a better response, XiaXue said, knowing two females wouldn't scare off children. Hell, they'd probably be more easy to talk to and find without fully armed guards running on. "Perhaps the sooner the better with dealing with the problems," maybe because she just wanted to be able to go home and be a hermit, away from the other officers of Wu. Probably because she didn't spend time with anyone either...

She turns slightly to the pirate as he mentioned things going missing at the shipyard. Pirates. She could understand those types losing things or stealing from others. But officers just having things go missing? Doubtful it happened on accident.
