Ming Ming was born of a Han father and Miao mother. From a young age, she had shown a knack in performing music when she would take her father's flute and play with it. At the age of 6, Ming's father sent her to her uncle, who was a master musician, to study with. After nine years of studying under her uncle, he had fallen sick. At the age of fifteen, Ming Ming started selling her body and her music for any kind of money to try to save her uncle's life.

Unfortunately her efforts were in vain and he passed away. Instead of returning back to her parents, Ming had decided to set out upon the world and become famous. Taking her uncle's qin and what little money she still had left, she set out. Traveling with Merchant caravans she became a favorite with her beauty and her enchanting voice. It was with these Merchant caravans she fell in love with one of the guards.


Lu Qiang, the guard, married her and they travelled together. She no longer sold her body and performed for the guards almost every night. In return, Qiang taught her swordsmanship and even gave her a sword of her own. However, her world was torn asunder when the caravan Qiang was guarding was attacked, and he had perished. 

With a broken heart and anger filling her, she once more stepped into the world.
